PHASES AND STAGES - LOS ANGELES

Promotes parenting skills through cultural preservation. in Stage 1, Families design and build traditional American Indian cradleboards, specific to the tribe of the newborn Indian Child. In Stage 2 families design and sew umbilical cord pouches. The pouches are embellished with glass beads, individually sewn onto leather as appropriate to the tribe of the child. Not all tribes save the umbilical cords and if your tribe is one that does, this is an excellent opportunity. Stage 3, families design moccasins for the baby's first steps.
